Memories are very good liars. They change themselves to suit their owners, telling them what they want to or expect to hear. It's scary.
Knowing that I might not remember right now as it really is frightens me.
The present may be all we have to enjoy the fruits of our labour.

You're so right--we tend to define and change our memories to have them fit what we wanted them to be, or feared them to be. Memories also define us--in ways that we can't explain. It think that is scary, too. There's a quote that I don't know where it came from that says "The past is the present is the future." Which I think is scary but true.
